maturity

the mid summer garden is happy and healthy
as evidenced by the moles
wreaking havoc in the pathways.
the soil is beautiful and aerated. the plants and worms are thriving, too.

this year, we replaced a few plants and moved a couple more to
better habitat for sun exposure.
the hostas will need dividing, the ground covers trimmed back
and some native ferns need cleaning up.

it's perfect in that wonderful wabi sabi way.

back to the garden

after much too long away, i got back to the tea garden to see for myself the beauty of the hostas in bloom. the plantings have matured (some to gigantic proportions!) and a few need dividing, a few need a bit more sun but there is an overwhelming sense that this is a well established  garden.

the japanese and siberian iris have been divided and gorgeous black grass saved from a friend's window boxes will thrive in their new locations.  natural mosses and tiny fir buds have created a forest floor between the plantings and stones.

the back of the waiting room and the structures at the entrance to the garden have been finished with beautiful aged, salvaged cedar boards.
